January Session (1/5-2/1) Updates

January Session Dates

January Session: January 5, 2026 – February 1, 2026
Tuition & Billing
Tuition for the January session is now due and will be processed prior to the beginning of the cycle through our auto-pay system. Please ensure your payment method on file is up to date.

If you need to pause or cancel enrollment, we require at least 7 days’ notice before the new session cycle by email to info@kenseijudo.com. Verbal notices or messages relayed through staff cannot be accepted, as email is required for proper record keeping.

January is intentionally being treated as a transition period as we implement our four-week session structure. This allows us to evaluate attendance, class balance, and overall flow so we can fine-tune the system moving forward. With this change, the dojo will be open for more total training days compared to 2025. These adjustments are part of building a structure that supports growth while maintaining high-quality instruction and fair class sizes.

Moving forward, emails like this will be sent a couple of days before each billing date to outline what to expect in the upcoming session, including important dates, events, and program updates.

Our website will also be updated on Monday with our current policies, program information, and FAQs. This will serve as a reference point if you have questions or would like to review details outside of email communication.

Facility Reminder

To help keep the space organized and safe, we ask that students place their belongings in the cubbies located in between the bathrooms during the training time and the students’ belongings need to be removed at the end of each class.

We are not responsible for any lost or unattended personal items. This helps keep walkways clear and ensures everyone has a clean, orderly training environment. We appreciate your help reinforcing this with your children.

Competition & Training

Competition at Kensei remains optional. While not required, competition can be a valuable way for students to challenge themselves, build character, and gain experience under pressure.

For students who choose to compete, competition practices are required and will be held on Sundays starting Jan 11th. These practices are designed to prepare athletes appropriately for tournament environments and expectations.

If your child is new to competition, please reach out to us before registering so we can ensure they are ready and properly supported. If your child has already competed outside of in-house tournaments, you may register directly.

Promotion Testing

We will be approaching families of students who are nearing promotion to give them advance notices of upcoming testing.

Students selected for testing are those who have demonstrated consistent attendance over time, strong focus and behavior during class, emerging leadership qualities, and reliable technical proficiency throughout regular training. Selection is based on ongoing observation, not short-term performance.

In addition to attendance, promotion readiness is evaluated using the following criteria: the student’s ability to consistently perform required techniques without step-by-step prompting, retain and apply material taught over multiple weeks, maintain safe and controlled training habits, and respond effectively to instruction in a live training environment. These standards are applied uniformly across all students.

Each student being considered will receive a testing packet outlining the required material and expectations. Students are expected to keep track of this packet and come prepared.

Testing will take place during the final 30 minutes of class during the designated testing week. Promotions are based on technical proficiency, understanding, attitude, and overall readiness for increased responsibility at the next level. Memorization alone is not sufficient, and promotion timelines may vary by student to ensure long-term confidence and success.
